Entry into Laos

Early morning wake up at 630 am! Left Wang Come hotel, bussed for two hours and crossed the Thai boarder into Laos. Was a shorter wait than expected, which was nice. Had to cross the Mekong river (very dirty looking) The Laos passport official was flirting with all the girls and saying who's pictures he liked which was pretty funny. He had a thing for brunettes and was very smiley. When Shauna got up there, not so much haha!

Took Laos tuk tuks (trucks with benches in the bed) to a long boat which we were on for 7 hrs to the pakbeng hotel right off of Mekhong delta. This town consisted of one street with vendors who all sold the same dusty stuff. Got chased off by a local who was on a motorbike wasted off his face yelling stuff at us. This was our first experience at a hotel without air conditioning and bathroom where the toilet is in the shower! Very small rooms, very hard mattress, tons of bugs and geckos that make howling noises too! On top of that there was a crazy lightening storm!

We had an excellent family style Laos dinner and went to bed at 830 after showers (after we had someone come and fix it).

Pictures below are from the day. Enjoy and comment!

  3. Laos looks as I expected, mekong river is picturesque but not very invitng for a swim. The bus benches look awful, there are alot of white legs in that bus, splinters or ???

Stay healthy, get your sleep and have fun.

    1. Those are Lao tuk tuks. Similar to Bangkok ones but bigger and cheaper! Pretty much just a really ghetto cab to get from one place to another. Usually only about 20,000 kip to and from your destination which is less than 3 dollars American. It's not easy to burn through money here!
