Cabbages and condoms!!!

Oooo and stopped at a place called cabbages and condoms. So in the 70s they wanted to stop over populating the area so health care ppl went in and showed the Thais how to use condoms on bananas for safe sex. Just to practice how to put them on

They came back 4 months later and the Thais showed them all the banana plantations. The plantations were covered in condoms!!! Hahahha so clearly te practice didn't translate where they were supposed to put the condoms hahahaha.

Yesterday went to another temple. All starting to look the same if u ask me!! Some statues and monks! We got blessed and of course made wishes!!! Then some other dude put a string on our wrist for good luck. Gotta keep it for 3 days so it comes true.

Then we headed off to a cooking class!!! It was definitely an interesting experience. We first went to the market to see where u but everything. Hmmmmm kinda gross looking at all the fish with bugs all over them. And then yes we Cooked with that!! Haha. We made pad Thai - mine lacked all flavour and Danielle's was totally burnt haha. Also made tonyong soup, cashew chicken and pumpkin chicken curry. and had the chefs mango coconut sticky rice which was probably te best thing I ate haha. Afterwards headed out to the markets to look around

This morning had a big buffet breakfast with western food. Thank god!!! Not a fan of all this Thai food. Hahaha

And now we are in Chaing Rai Stopped at a fabulous white temple with the most bizarre paintings For instance Spider-Man, hello kitty, Freddy Kruger, and tgh matrix dude inside the temple. Haha.

And our hotel. If u haven't guessed its called "wangcome". How great. Hahahhahahha love it

Day 2

Went to the zoo! Met up with our tour group! Great bunch! Unfortunately mostly Canadian and Aussies and 25 out of 33 are girls!!! Quite the estrogen fear actually.

Took a night train to Chang Mei and we are here for the night. Great hotel, we are blasting the AC in the rooms. Had no idea how hot it was going to be here.... It's crazy!!! We are sweating like crazy unfortunately the good selection is limited to fried but we load up on the fruit every morning.

Been really busy and won't have wifi tn.
Heading off to a Thai cooking class now!

Day 2 Bangkok

Parting with some clothing today. Unfortunately it does not make up a large amount of weight. We are thinking of ditching more, but I have to ease shauna into disposing of clothing due to her hoarding tendencies.

First night in Bangkok!!!!

Around 11 we Decided to head out and explore the city. Delle and I went out for lunch at a complete white washed restaurant. Somehow ended up ordering questionable Italian food. Hmmmmm.... Afterwards decided to go back to get sunscreen. Next thing we know its 9 hours later and we slept the whole afternoon. Hahah. So we get dressed and head out again. Met some interesting travellers and went to a "sporting event" together. Love all the shops and interesting thigs to buy here. Rode on our first tuk-tuk. Luckily I got the VIP seat- however I don't think it was very important. Probably the easiest seat to fall out of onto the road but still fun!!

Note- all travellers come with only your passport. U do not even need a backpack!!! And clothes -- soooo cute!!!

One night in Bangkok!!

So just arrived!!!!! Ahhhh!! We took some sort of public transportation to the city --- and even with my terrible sense of direction we went the right way-- into Bangkok!! Hahahah. Stopped at a store to pick up water, fried seaweed and weird Jelly candies and tried to hail a tuk-tuk. Well didn't manage to get one of those bit got a crazy taxi driver. And through the whole ride we weren't sure if we were ripping him off or if he was ripping us off. Hmmmmmm language barrier.
Shoulda figured that out before!! We later determined that in fact we ripped him off unknowingly.
Now we have checked into our hotel and winding down from all the planes and airports!!

Layover in Paris!!!

Had an interesting flight from Toronto to Paris. Danielle and I were separated. She quickly became friends with an Indian engineer who gave her travelling tips. I, on the other hand, remained completely sandwiched between two impolite French people. During the layover we were able to catch up in the 7 hours we were apart. Headed off to Bangkok now!!!!

Boarding time!!!

Soooooo Danielle and I have tried to figured out the flight from Toronto to Paris. Soooo apparently there is a time difference? Quick math problem- if the plane lands at 08:00 what time zone is that and how long is the flight??? ...........hmmmmmmm........ Then from Paris to Bangkok. More time zones...hmmmmmm......... That's a thinker.


And even better cant even sit together on the flight to Paris!! Ggggrreeeaaaatttt!

Research process

Today shauna and I looked up a video on YouTube of how to use a mandi bathroom. Meaning pretty much "hole in the ground"

Lets just say we are less than thrilled to experience it in reality. No paper needed. Just let the water flow. Hmm

Things we learned:
Lock the door!
Don't squat the wrong way and aim ;)
Don't forget to rinse!
Don't rinse in the bucket provided for cleansing. People have to wash their hands with that water too!
Do not flush paper!
Always wash your hands!
